Why Your Search Rank May Be Harming Your Business

Got a new website or had a website for a while, but no one seems to visit it?

Was hoping this was the answer to your marketing issues?

Is your search rank low?

This is a common and very costly mistake for businesses both young and old.

Given the right attention, your website should be your best marketer and your best sales person. So why is this not the case with your business and how can you change this around? Time to answer the age old question of “Why is my website not bringing in business?”.

Essentially, it is your search rank. Your search rank is a direct contributor to website traffic success. If you are not appearing high on the first day, organically users will not be able to find you. With most users using Google to answer their queries, it is essential you work on your positioning on the results page. Here are the important steps you need to take in order to turn your search rank into a damaging factor, to a successful factor.

Review Your Website

If you have had your website for more than a few months, you will need to do a review to see if there are any elements that are working. Google analytics, or ideally Hubspot, software will give you this information. You need to think- “what does success for the website look like?” and “how does that fit with my business?”.

Think About Your Clients

After a review, you will need to think about what clients you want to work with and the website to generate. Looking at your existing clients and seeing which ones not only bring the most money, but which ones give you the least hassle.

We now know who we want to come to the website, we now need to decide what we want them to do. Why are they going to come to the website? Why should they contact you? What will keep them on the website?

Adapt Your Website To-Fit

Now we can start making some changes to the website to ensure it fits with your plan, that your prospective clients take a journey on your website and then get in contact with you.

Once the changes are made, we need to put visitors into the website funnel so that we can get some leads. Make sure all of your existing offline content (business cards, brochures, posters, etc.) guide the potential client to your website. The best method is to go out into the world wide web and grab those potential clients’ attention.

Draw Attention

The most effective method for grabbing people’s attention is not by talking about your services, their features and how great you are at them (that’s what the service pages on your website are for).

The best way to draw people to you is to help them at the start of their journey by answering any questions they may have about your service/product before they even think about who to go with. Show that people have used your product and service before to help build trust. Think about the questions frequently asked by your clients, what are their pain points and how does the service you offer help them overcome that. Make your company and the people that work for you experts in the fields and then go to people for advice on this area.

Synergise Your Content

You then need to take all the above and make it so that your blog, emails, social media accounts and  reflect that on an ongoing basis. This will not give you an overnight return on your investment of time and money, but this is how marketing is done now. This is all because consumers have the freedom and power to choose rather than having to pick from people that are in their faces.

We usually see results between 3 – 6 months and the results will keep on increasing. During this time, it is so important to make sure that you regularly review the results, and adjust your activities accordingly.
