60 Minute Mentor session at St Thomas More School

Today we visted St Thomas More School to deliver a 60 Minute Mentor session to the Sixth Form Students who aren’t exactly sure what path they want to go down when they have finished their studies.  For an hour, Managing Director Luke spoke to the students about his journey as a young entrepreneur, and what he has done to reach the point he is at now with 07 Heaven Marketing. The event was hosted by JobCentre Plus, who organised the day to focus on career options. They said Luke was the highlight of the day, and we hope that the students found the talk informative and that it gives them something to think about for the future.

Luke highlighted some key points during his talk with the students. The first being networking.

Networking is an invaluable tool in today’s working world and it can start from when you’re a student. It can be anything from the group of friends you have at school to the classmates you play sports with. It is never too early to make sure you branch out as much as people to boost those contacts. You never know which one of those classmates will have an opportunity for you in the future.

The second is demonstrating the key skills

Demonstrating the necessary skills you have to employers can be challenging. The best way to do this is through experience. Again, this can be shown in a range of ways. From ventures such as The Duke of Edinburgh, playing for a sports team or business enterprise. All experiences undertaken highlight the skills you have as an individual, and how this will be percieved by employers. There is an ever growing pressure on today’s school leavers in having a strong CV and good references. Luke’s talk concluded that there are options for everyone when leaving school and there are opportunities around every corner if you apply yourself in everything that you do.

We’d like to say thank you again to St Thomas More for having us, and Rosie Powley from the Enterprise and Tourism department at the Southend Borough Council for inviting us!
