07 Heaven Marketing Pancake Day

It’s pancake day, or shrove Tuesday, depending on how you look at it! To us at 07 Heaven Design it’s definitely pancake day. We aim to shoot out this lunch and grab all the ingredients necessary to really celebrate this special day… Fingers crossed that there isn’t a maple syrup shortage! We have some steps that we will be following that may help you also, these include a recipe and a step by step on how to flip a pancake like a pro, it can go wrong very easily which can waste this carb heavy goodness.

These are thick, spongy American pancakes that are often eaten with warm maple syrup and maybe even some crispy fried bacon.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 30 grams butter (melted and cooled)
  • 300 ml milk
  • 225 grams plain flour
  • butter for frying

Method

  1.                       The easiest way to make these is to put all the ingredients into a blender and blitz. But if you do mix up the batter by hand in a bowl, make a well in the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar, beat in the eggs, melted butter and milk, and transfer to a jug: it’s much easier to pour the batter into the pan than to spoon it.
  1. Heat a smooth griddle or pan on the stove.
  2. When you cook the pancakes, all you need to remember is that when the upper side of the pancake is blistering and bubbling it’s time to cook the second side, and this needs only about 1 minute, if that.
  3. I get about 16 silver-dollar-sized pancakes out of this.

How to flip a pancake!

  1. Wait until the pancake’s edges are dry and the top of the pancake has bubbles rising up. Take a fork and scoot it underneath the edge of the pancake. Lift it up. If the underside is golden brown, it’s time to flip.
  2. Place a spatula underneath the pancake. Don’t hesitate, or you’ll mess it up. (Putting butter or margarine on the pan makes this step much easier.)
  3. Lift the spatula with the pancake on top. In a quick turn of your wrist, replace the pancake back onto the pan. Only lift the pancake about 6 inches off the pan’s surface, and make sure you don’t stop mid motion so your pancake doesn’t break. After you’ve safely landed back on the pan, DO NOT push down on top of the pancake! It will only toughen it up and make it gross, and it won’t help it cook any faster.
  4. Wait for the other side of the pancake to cook fully. Use the same fork trick to check for completeness.
  5. Do not flip the pancake again! Over-handling will make the pancake tough and not fluffy, and once again, it won’t help cooking.

So, there you have it! 07 Heaven’s guide to the perfect pancake. We hope you treat yourselves and enjoy your day!
